Why acoustic panels need acoustically transparent fabric
Sound has to pass through the face of a panel to reach the absorbing core. Every fabric we sell is made for that job, so the core does the absorbing and the fabric gives you a durable, finished surface. Panel NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) ratings are measured through the fabric, and fabric color has a negligible effect on absorption.
Which fabric fits your project
- Burch Fabrics Prime Time is our recommended line for most projects and the one to choose for any room that needs a Class A finish. It is the Made in the USA equivalent of Guilford of Maine (a Canadian company) Anchorage and FR701.
- Guilford of Maine FR701, Anchorage and Whisper are stocked alongside Burch Prime Time, so a spec that names Guilford by brand can be built as written. Call 888-923-5777 to confirm current availability on your color.
- Microsuede gives a soft look for home theaters and living spaces. It is not fire rated.
- Burlap gives a natural, textured look. It is not fire rated.
How much fabric to order
For each panel, allow the panel width plus two times the panel depth, plus 4 inches of overlap per side for stapling on the back, and work out the height the same way. Fabric is sold by the linear yard. Send us your panel sizes and quantities and we will calculate the exact yardage for you.
Custom colors
- Stock palette. 155 colors across six lines are listed on the product page. The acoustic fabric library shows every stocked color, with mill style numbers for the Burch and Guilford lines.
- Special order. We are an authorized dealer for Burch Fabrics and Guilford of Maine and can special-order colors from either mill's full library.
- Color codes. Send a PMS (Pantone) or RAL code and we will match it as closely as the palette allows.
- Exact brand colors. A custom printed acoustic art panel can match most Pantone colors, or carry your logo or artwork.
