ATS Wedge Foam Acoustic Panels - Honest Comparison Guide

Honest answer up front: we don't actually sell wedge foam panels. We sell custom-built fabric-wrapped fiberglass panels (NRC up to 1.0) and PET felt panels (NRC 0.88). This page is here to answer the question buyers ask honestly: "is wedge foam right for my room?"

What wedge foam IS good for

• Hobbyist gaming setups, casual streaming corners, dorm rooms, occasional voice recording
• Treating obvious slap-echo cheaply (under $50 for a small kit)
• Visible "studio look" cosmetics

What wedge foam is NOT good for

• Real broadband absorption. Typical wedge foam = NRC 0.40-0.55. Our 2" fabric-wrapped panels = NRC up to 1.0. The performance gap is large and audible.
• Low-frequency / room-mode control. Wedge foam barely touches sub-500Hz. Boom, mud, and rumble are still there.
• Class A fire rating documentation. Most wedge foam is open-cell polyurethane and not Class A by default. For commercial, school, healthcare, or assembly-occupancy projects, foam will fail code review.
• Long-term durability. Foam yellows in 2-3 years, catches dust, and crumbles when handled.

What we recommend instead

If you're treating a real room (studio, podcast, office, restaurant, classroom), the honest answer is real fabric-wrapped panels. Our 1" panels start at $30 each, which is competitive with foam on a per-square-foot basis once you factor in actual NRC performance. The acoustic difference is night and day.

For corners specifically, our triangular corner bass traps are the single highest-impact upgrade you can make - far better than foam corner kits.
